The Butterfly Effect Award

The Butterfly Effect Award

BF Boarder

Congratulations December's Butterfly Effect Award Winner!

LB            Lanette Bell

"Lanette is an essential part of the finance team and is a pleasure to work with daily.  Her role as Payroll Clerk is a behind the scenes position that affects us all.   She strives to provide each employee with accurate and timely pay and takes time to help employees understand their pay and deductions when needed.  She puts in the extra time and attention needed to ensure all deadlines are met to keep the district in compliance with federal, state, and local agencies.  She has helped me in my first year as Director of Finance tremendously.  She has shared her knowledge of payroll and government reporting to help me better understand school finance and has let me know that she is willing to help whenever I need it."--Kara Eckles

"No one sees the cogs that are integral to the workings of a clock, but without them the clock would cease to function. Lanette is an important "cog" to our district--always out of sight, meticulous in her work, and vital to the success of every employee in the district.  She spends countless hours working, after operational hours are over, doing what it takes to ensure payroll is correct and everything is in place by the next payroll.  She performs many other duties outside of just running payroll and most days there are just not enough hours in a day to get it all done. She truly has a caring heart and strives for perfection in everything she does; her attention to detail is second to none.  Lanette deserves the Butterfly Award for caring enough to go above and beyond every single day."--Anonymous

"His daily willingness to help in whatever way that is asked of him.  He is always good natured, amiable, and pleasant to work with.  He will gladly do anything to help.  He routinely brings snacks and goodies for the driver's, and keeps the coffee hot and fresh."--Larry Wittman

Melanie Domerese

"I am nominating Melanie Domerese for the Butterfly Effect Award because of her caring personality.  Melanie brings a smile to HCMS each and everyday.  The students at HCMS greatly benefit from her warm and caring personality.   She is always willing to help the students at HCMS and to go the extra mile to ensure they have the items they need to be successful at school.  She makes sure all of the students who stay for ESS have a snack and a drink each time they stay after school.  She works with students to help keep our concession stand up and running during the ballgames.  She has a wonderful relationship with the community members which helps to bridge the path between school and home."--Anonymous

Ashley Gorman

"Ashley truly takes time to speak to each person; whether a student, a staff member, or parent. She is genuine, kind, and patient.  She works with each person individually to ensure their needs are met, always thinking of creative ways to help them be successful.  She treats each staff member with respect and genuinely cares about each person.  She greets each student every morning, focusing on what is best for kids each day. Always putting relationships and character first.  Role modeling and teaching student kindness, compassion, and hard work.   I am amazed at Ashley's time management skills.  She is intentional about each day, prioritizes, demonstrates and communicates the importance of balance of work and family.   I am honored and blessed to work along the side of Ashley Gorman, she is proactive and progressive in her work, always putting other first.  Hancock County Public Schools is lucky to have such an amazing woman to lead  the high school."--Anonymous

Misty Kellams

"I nominate Misty because she goes above and beyond for our public schools. Misty is an outstanding employee that worked all summer in the summer feeding program and served breakfast at the back to school bash. It has been a pleasure to have her at our school these past few months because she is always so helpful and polite! I know I will sure miss her after Christmas break."--Dartha Cartwright

Chasity Potts

"Chasity not only works extremely hard to keep our school spotless and sanitized but she goes above and beyond.  There is not a time of the week that I can't ask Chasity for help at the Youth Service Center and she will drop what she is doing and help!  With going back and forth from the middle and high school, there is sometimes I am not able to serve all students with needs such as socks or other basic clothing  due to being at the other school.  The students know they can ask Chasity for help and she will take care of them.  She also knows more about our students than any other individual in this building and that is because they tell her.  The students truly love her and so does the staff! She is a "Social Butterfly" and we are so very blessed to have her at HCMS!"--Laura Kessans

Rebecca Powers

"Rebecca did a fantastic job helping organize the Veteran's Day Brunch. She made sure that the room was ready for our special guests in addition to her normal job responsibilities. She is a great coach and co-worker with her positive attitude!"--Anonymous

Lori Beth Roberts

"Mrs. Roberts shows that she cares for each person in the community. Whether it be one of her students, her athletes, or another employee, she shows she cares. She shows that she is fully committed to teaching and she always has a smile on her face. Whether she's having a bad day or not, she doesn't show it. She's always smiling and keeping me in a good mood. I look forward to seeing her everyday.

She is one of the few teachers that I feel I can come to for anything. Whether I need to talk, or just need a laugh to make my day, she always finds a way to make me feel better. She is a true inspiration to me and shows dedication to school and everything she is involved in. Mrs. Roberts has made a difference in many lives and she continues to do so. The school system is lucky to have her as both a teacher and a coach."--Anonymous

"Lori Roberts is the model teacher.  She is a co-advisor to the FBLA Chapter, "Print Master" aka takes all the orders for the giant printer, serves on multiple committees, attends most home games and coaches basketball! She is always ready to take on the next challenge and is a helpful mentor. She is a fantastic leader who is willing to give a hand!"--Candace Kruse

Laura Szefi

"Laura Szefi is a teacher who sets high standards for students in her classroom and her fellow colleagues. As a teacher early in my career, I look up to the high expectations she sets for herself and try to embody those in my own classroom. The most admirable traits Laura possesses are her work ethic, empathy, and leadership skills. Laura works countless hours ensuring all levels of students receive quality instruction, while still maintaining leadership roles in the school. She is one of the most creative lesson planners that I have ever met, and she is always willing to share those ideas. She aids teachers through her role as a media specialist, but more importantly, she cares about her colleagues. I value her contribution to HCHS and feel that she is deserving of recognition for all of the help she provides to myself, other teachers, administration, and students."--Anonymous

Janine Wilson

"Janine Wilson is a breath of fresh air when walking in to the front office. She always has a smile on her face and is willing to help in any way. Janine is usually the first person to say hello and always tells me to have a good day. She is organized, driven, and attentive. If I ever need help, Janine is willing to go above and beyond to make sure that my job is easier. She never treats my questions as a burden to answer. Without Janine, the school would not run as smoothly as it does."--Anonymous
