Summer Feeding Program is Back!

Summer Feeding Starts Wednesday, May 30th and
Our SFSP Kick Off is Monday, June 4, 2018
at Vastwood Park’s Beach House

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about how children will eat healthy while school is out.  Hancock County Schools with the help of Hancock County Libraries provides free meals to children during the summer.

Our official Summer Feeding Program which provides meals to all children 18 years and younger begins on Wednesday, May 30th at the following sites from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday:  Hawesville Methodist Church, Lewisport Methodist Church, and South Hancock Elementary.  In addition to lunch at Hancock County Middle School from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., we will also be serving breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.  Although we will not be serving the week of July 2-6, we will serve every other weekday between May 30th and August 10th.

If your group, church or organization is interested in partnering with us to provide supervision for enrichment activities such as outdoor sports or crafts OR if your organization would be willing to commit to providing transportation to any of our 4 main feeding sites for a week during the summer, please contact Pam Ramsey at 270-927-7558 or pam.ramsey@hancock.kyschools.us.

We can also provide meals for your lunch or supper VBS or camp programs.  Contact Heather Ramsey at 270-927-6914 or heather.ramsey@hancock.kyschools.us to reserve your meals at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the event.  You must also receive basic food service, civil rights and documentation training prior to serving the meals.

Our Summer Feeds/Summer Reads Kick-Off is on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Vastwood Park Beach House from 11:00-2:00.  You can come for a day of fun with your family to the kick-off event and learn more about Summer Feeds/Summer Reads.  We will provide a complimentary meal from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., games, face painting, inflatables, reading fun activities, and a special concert at 1:30 p.m. by Brad McCrady, local Elvis impersonator. Local radio stations will also cover the event. There is no cost to attend.  More information is available at 270-927-6914 or www.hancock.kyschools.us.  Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like Hancock County Schools and Libraries,  to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.  Any one age 18 or younger may come and eat, regardless of income.  In fact, the more children who eat, the more we can feed next year.

We hope to see you and work with you to make 2018 the best summer ever for Hancock County’s kids with friends, food, and fun!
